Tennessee Returns to Adidas with Game-Changing NIL Deal

The University of Tennessee is making a major shift in the college sports landscape. After more than a decade with Nike, the Vols have inked a 10-year NIL partnership with Adidas—and this isn’t just about uniforms and gear. The deal comes with a multi-million dollar NIL component designed to directly benefit student-athletes.

According to reports, the NIL portion alone could be worth at least $10 million, offering Tennessee athletes unprecedented opportunities to partner with Adidas. This is especially significant in the new post-House settlement era, where apparel companies can play a big role in providing “over-the-cap” NIL deals separate from school revenue sharing. Simply put: adidas is giving Tennessee athletes a bigger slice of the pie.

While the new contract officially begins next school year, Adidas is already moving to line up NIL partnerships for current Vols athletes. Until then, Tennessee players will still wear Nike gear on game days due to the existing agreement, which runs through 2026.

This deal marks a homecoming of sorts—Tennessee last partnered with Adidas in 2014. Now, with NIL partnerships in play, the Vols’ return to the three stripes could set a new standard for athlete-brand partnerships.
